Why this petition matters

Started by Melinda DiStefano

Wawa has begun exploring the installation of a Super Wawa, which would include both a convenience store and gas pumps, at the corner of South Aberdeen and Lancaster Avenue.   The new construction would replace the existing Sunoco and BP gas stations.

The Super Wawa will not only contribute to noise, light, and trash pollution, but it will also create a massive amount of vehicle traffic at what is already one of the busiest intersections in Wayne.  Wawa has proposed reducing the amount of curb-cuts to Lancaster Avenue; therefore, the majority of the traffic will exit onto South Aberdeen Avenue.

South Aberdeen is a small residential street that leads to Radnor Middle School, St. Katharine of Siena Church, and St. Katharine of Siena School.  It is not in the best interest of the community to allow all of the gas stations, convenience stores, pharmacies and restaurants to be condensed into one of the three intersections in Wayne. We already deal with traffic congestion due to existing businesses.  This additional concentration of traffic will have second and third order effects on the nearby residential streets creating congestion and safety concerns for our residents, particularly our children who walk to and from school during morning and evening rush hour.  How much more can be added before Wayne loses its identity?
